Disabilities and Medical Conditions can be an important part of an AAC user's life as they can impact their daily lives so it's important to include their disabilities and medical conditions in their AACs. As part of the Disabled and/or Neurodiverse community they are highly likely to encounter other Disabled/Neurodiverse people. We have a tendency to be drawn to one another, because we tend to have some level of understanding of the challenges we go through, even if we don't know each other's specific challenges we can still empathise and understand more than many of those we deal with on a daily basis. This enables us to connect with each other more and can help us to forge friendships with other memebers of our community. Because of this it can be helpful to have a section for Disabilities and Medical Conditions on our AACs. Here are some Disabilities and Medical Conditions to add to our AAC user's AAC. Remember that the first things you should add are the AAC user's own challenges, so that they can talk about them.
Don't forget to also include somewhere in the AAC somewhere that has comments about the challenges in question, so that the AAC user can explain about their challenges to people who don't know about them, can explain the areas that they have difficulties with, need assistance of some kind, and discuss their challenges and experiences with others. Remember not to only focus on things like difficulties and assistance, but any positive aspects too, like things they like (if any) about their challenges, like skills their disability gives them, etc.
